Mangalorean Catholics have a typical list of songs that have been sung through the ages, including baila and American and British music from the 50s and 60s. Here’s a songbook that captures many of these precious songs. It’s called the JERINA Songbook, named after my grandparents, Jerry & Ena

Music is the heart and soul of culture in Mangalore.

Mangalorean Catholics have their own unique musical style called “baila”, a word that comes from the Portuguese “bailar”, which means to dance. It is a blend of local and Portuguese musical styles and it is also popular in Goa and Srilanka. Baila is upbeat, full of life and brings the entire community on their feet every time it plays. It is typically accompanied by lively dancing and plenty of brass instruments. Brass bands are very popular in Mangalore, especially at weddings.

14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi shatters records with blazing century

Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the young sensation who turned heads at the 2024 IPL Mega Auction, has now set the cricketing world ablaze. At just 14 years and 32 days old, the Rajasthan Royals’ prodigy smashed the second-fastest century in IPL history, and the fastest ever by an Indian, leaving the crowd at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in absolute awe.

Suryavanshi’s breathtaking innings of 101 runs included 11 towering sixes and seven sizzling boundaries. In doing so, he shattered several records — overtaking the likes of Manish Pandey (19 years 253 days), Rishabh Pant (20 years 218 days), and Devdutt Padikkal (20 years 289 days) to become the youngest centurion in IPL history.

His whirlwind century is second only to Chris Gayle’s iconic 30-ball ton, while he also eclipsed Yusuf Pathan’s Indian record of a 37-ball century.

With his fearless approach and explosive strokeplay, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has not just announced his arrival — he has heralded a new era for Indian cricket.

According to a report published by the Financial Times, the decision is in line with Apple’s broader strategy to reduce its reliance on China amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions and trade uncertainty.

While the final roadmap will depend on how swiftly India can scale up its local supply chain infrastructure, initial developments are already underway. Apple’s key contract manufacturer, Foxconn, is spearheading efforts from its plant near Bengaluru, which is expected to begin full-scale operations this month. Sources reveal that the facility may eventually roll out as many as 20 million iPhone units annually.

Industry insiders told that Tamil Nadu-based Foxconn has already accounted for nearly 50 percent of Apple’s overseas shipments from India, with exports showing an impressive 40 percent year-on-year surge.

Over the past year alone, iPhones worth $22 billion have been assembled in India, placing the country firmly on Apple’s global production map. Currently, nearly 20 percent of Apple’s total iPhone output originates from India.

Experts say the shift in manufacturing strategy underlines a broader recognition of India’s economic potential. “With production ramping up and domestic demand booming, India is no longer just a secondary market — it is fast becoming central to Apple’s global game plan,” one expert noted.

The move also aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Make in India’, as the government continues to woo global electronics manufacturers with incentives and policy support.

If plans materialise as expected, India could soon hold the pride of assembling every iPhone sold across the United States — a testament to the country’s rising stature in the global tech ecosystem

Pahalgam terror attack updates: A day after the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam killed 26 tourists, India on Wednesday summoned Pakistan High Commission’s Charge d’affaires in Delhi and handed over a note regarding the military diplomats being declared Persona Non Grata. The summons were issued after India announced a series of severe measures against Pakistan, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty that governs the sharing of the river Indus’ waters.

New Delhi also said that Pakistani nationals will not be permitted to travel to India under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES).

The development came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security in view of the deadly attack, which took place at Baisaran, dubbed ‘mini Switzerland’ for its meadow, and was one of the deadliest in the Valley since the Pulwama strike in 2019.

Internet Trust: Why We Need It and How to Achieve It

Internet Trust: Why We Need It and How to Achieve It

The Internet has been around for 50+ years and has become ingrained in many people’s daily lives. Trust in the Internet is crucial for it to provide opportunities and services, but since its inception, Internet trust has fluctuated. Let’s dive into Internet trust, what makes a trustworthy Internet, and why people should care.

Why Is There a Lack of Trust in the Internet?

The degree to which we depend on and enjoy the Internet in daily life, often without even knowing it, indicates that we have a significant level of trust in the Internet. Perception is key when it comes to trust. People who do not trust the Internet are unlikely to use it and will miss out on its opportunities.

While we benefit immensely from the Internet, a pervasive sense of vulnerability persists. This stems from a variety of factors.

The Internet is vast and complex. Users often struggle to understand how their data is collected, used, and protected online. Data breaches, ransomware attacks, and misinformation campaigns erode trust.

IPL Today Match, Points Table 2025, Orange Cap, Purple Cap, RCB vs RR Team Predicted Playing 11 Live Updates: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) come into the IPL 2025 game against the Rajasthan Royals with a curious record: they are yet to win a game at home, and yet to lose a game away from home. Facing the Rajasthan Royals at home on Thursday, the team from Bengaluru would be looking to change that.

RCB are fourth in the standings with 10 points from eight games while Rajasthan are in 8th spot in IPL 2025, having garnered just four points from eight games.

For the Rajasthan Royals, the significant news is that they will be without talismanic captain Sanju Samson, and will instead be led by Riyan Parag who was in charge at the start of the season. Rajasthan Royals come into the game on a four-match losing streak. More significantly, they have endured back-to-back heartbreaks in their previous two games after failing to score nine runs in the final over against Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

In 2019, a woman filed a lawsuit against the city of Newport after she fell on a trail. Some coastal towns are now closing trails to avoid similar lawsuits.

NEWPORT, Oregon — For years, the city of Newport has been fighting a lawsuit against a woman who said she hurt herself when she was walking to Agate Beach.

The legal fight is prompting some Oregon coast communities to consider shutting down their paths, trails and stairways to protect themselves from similar lawsuits.

In 2019, a woman sued Newport for $345,000, arguing it was negligent by creating hazardous conditions when she slipped on a wooden bridge to the beach, according to court documents.

“There was an individual that fell and then ended up pursing litigation to resolve some medical issues,” said Spencer Nebel, the city manager for Newport.

Nebel said they thought the city was protected by a law called “recreational immunity.”

“Recreational immunity is a law that says if people can open their property — or cities or private owners open up their property — for public use, they are immune from being sued,” said Nebel.

The case then went to the Oregon Court of Appeals, who wanted to determine if Fields was in fact using the trails for recreation.
