Kaup: Child dies by drowning in temple pond during wedding event

The deceased child has been identified as Vasudeva (4), son of Satyanarayana (38) and Soumya, residents of Kurkalu village in Kaup.

According to the complaint filed by Satyanarayana, the family had attended a wedding at the Shri Durgaparameshwari Temple hall in Nandikur. Around 2 pm, Soumya was feeding their younger child Vishnu Priya (1) inside the hall, with Vasudeva also nearby.

After feeding the baby, Soumya reportedly stepped away briefly to wash her hands. Upon returning, she noticed that Vasudeva was missing. She immediately informed the family members and relatives present at the hall and began searching for the child in the premises. Despite thorough efforts, the child could not be found within the hall.

At around 2:15 pm, Vasudeva’s body was found floating in the temple pond adjacent to the venue. Bystanders quickly retrieved the child and attempted first aid, but he was unresponsive.

Soumya informed her husband, and the child was rushed to a hospital in Udupi, where doctors declared him dead. The family took him to another hospital in Manipal  but doctors there also confirmed his death.

A case has been registered at the Padubidri police station.

Pakistan violates agreement to stop military action, India retaliates swiftly

New Delhi | Srinagar: India said Pakistan violated an agreement to stop military action against each other, hours after the accord was reached and had gone into effect at 5 pm on Saturday.

For the last few hours, there have been repeated violations of the understanding arrived at earlier this evening,” foreign secretary Vikram Misri said at a televised briefing late on Saturday. “The armed forces are giving an adequate and appropriate response to these violations. We call upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps to address these violations and deal with the situation with seriousness and responsibility.”

Srinagar was rocked by multiple blasts at around 8:50 pm that continued intermittently for at least 40 minutes on Saturday night. Similar reports came in from other parts of Kashmir, including Anantnag in the south and Baramulla in the north. Electricity was shut across the Valley.

“What the hell just happened to the ceasefire? Explosions heard across Srinagar! This is no ceasefire. The air defence units in the middle of Srinagar just opened up,” Jammu & Kashmir chief minister Omar Ab ..

"Economically Reckless": 12 US States Sue Trump Over Tariffs

Trump has imposed an additional 145 percent import duties on China, and Beijing responded with its own 125 percent tariffs on US goods. On Wednesday, Trump told reporters he’s working on a “fair deal with China.”

Trump has said his protectionist policy will return manufacturing jobs to the United States.

Washington:

A coalition of 12 American states filed a lawsuit Wednesday to challenge the Trump administration’s tariffs, saying the president cannot institute the levies without the approval of Congress.

“President Trump’s insane tariff scheme is not only economically reckless — it is illegal,” Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes said in a statement.

The southwestern state is joined by Democratic-led Minnesota, New York, Oregon and others in the filing. Separately, California filed a similar suit a week ago.

President Donald Trump has sent markets into tumult in his second term, turning decades of free trade policy on its head with his “Liberation Day” announcements of new tariffs against numerous countries.
