Arecanut Price Surge in the State

The arecanut price in Karnataka, particularly in the Davanagere district, has seen a significant increase as of September 14, 2025. After a period of decline, the prices have risen sharply, bringing relief and smiles to the farmers in areas such as Channagiri , Honnali, and Davanagere taluks, where arecanut cultivation is prominent. The maximum price for arecanut per quintal has reached ₹60,699, with the minimum price around ₹50,200 and the average price at ₹59,611.

This rise follows fluctuations earlier in the year: in late January 2025, the price was about ₹52,000 per quintal, rising steadily to over ₹60,000 by the end of April. Prices dipped in early May through early July but have generally trended upward since then, except for some minor dips. In August, prices slightly improved compared to July, but at the start of the second week of September, a sharp price increase was observed.Farmers are hopeful for further price rises in coming days, supported by good monsoon rains and prospects of a good harvest. However, challenges remain, including risks from pests like “kall-kakara” and managing proper storage to protect the crop. Additionally, ongoing drizzle in the Malnad region is causing concerns for arecanut farmers there.

In summary, the current arecanut market in Davanagere is witnessing a robust price increase in September 2025, with prices recovering strongly from previous declines and prospects of further appreciation buoyed by favorable growing conditions and demand.
