Mangaluru : Acting on the directions of the joint commissioner of excise, Mangaluru division, and under the supervision of the deputy commissioner of excise, Dakshina Kannada, officials of the excise department raided a house at Lobo Lane, Kadri, uncovering an illegal wine manufacturing unit.
The raid, led by the excise deputy superintendent of Mangaluru sub-division–1 with support from inspectors of Mangaluru, Talapady Investigation Station, and Mangaluru South Range–1, resulted in the seizure of 238.5 litres of spurious wine, 1,500 litres of fermented liquid, 3.18 litres of liquor, and various equipment used in the preparation of illicit wine.

The accused, identified as Michael Blaze Menezes, was arrested on the spot in the presence of five witnesses and produced before the court. A case has been registered under Sections 13(1)(a), 13(1)(f), 14, 15, 32(1), 32(2)(e), 34, and 38(A) of the Karnataka Excise Act, 1965, at the Mangaluru South Range–1 office by excise sub-inspector Harish P.
The total value of seized items is estimated at Rs 5,57,690.
